Save At The Super Bowl Party During These Inflationary Times

Even if your favorite team isn’t playing the Super Bowl this Sunday, there’s always something to look forward to, like meeting up with friends and all that holiday food.

But prices for Super Bowl snacks will rise this year due to food inflation. Therefore, we have found several ways to save on food and party supplies.

Great food to serve this year

At Back Porch Saloon, manager Mike Saloon has some big ideas for the big game.

For Eagles fans, he suggests serving two Philadelphia specialties: “cheesesteak and pretzels!” His restaurant even brings in Philadelphia’s famous Amoroso buns (your party gets extra points if you can get them too).

Salon says if you’re hosting Kansas City fans, consider BBQ.

“We’ll be serving barbecue sliders,” he said.

For everyone else, he offers chili sauces and nachos, which are always a big hit at his restaurant on game day.

Another helpful salon tip if you’re catering to a group at home: think about small portions that make it easier for everyone and more accessible to you.

“Smaller portions are always better,” he said, “because you can come and go from them.”

His secret tip: Buy mini buns, not full-sized buns, for sandwiches or barbecues.

Prices for most food items

How about prices?

The e-commerce accelerator Pattern recently looked at the prices of some of the popular Super Bowl snacks.

They expect buyers to pay more for:

  • Tortilla chips (+5%)
  • Crackers (+17%)
  • Mozzarella sticks (+27%)
  • Mayonnaise (+35%)
  • Ranch gas station (+26)

Plastic and paper products are also more expensive, including:

  • Paper plates (+15%)
  • Plastic cups (+12%)

To save money, smart shopping expert Tray Bodge says if you have a Sam’s Club, Costco, or BJ membership, this is the only time to buy a very large quantity in bulk.

“You can get a big vat of queso or these giant chips bags,” she said.

Or she offers to eat.

“For example, people love to brag about their famous chili recipe,” she said.

Pattern’s Dallin Hatch says inflation is still hampering our Super Bowl gatherings, even as the inflation rate is falling.

“Prices will continue to rise, but at a slower pace,” he said, “and in general this is what we are seeing in the consumer landscape.”

There is good news before the big game.

The pattern data shows a slight drop in prices compared to last year:

  • Chicken wings (-13%)
  • Beer (-3%)
  • Nacho cheese (-13%)

They have all come down in price due to a price spike in 2021, meaning that chicken wings are finally available again.

And one last money-saving tip: if you’re ordering delivery or going to a restaurant like Back Porch, ask what Super Bowl promotions they have.

Salon, itself a huge fan of the Eagles, will be handing out hot cheesesteak sandwiches, just like they serve on Broad Street in Philadelphia.

“The star of the show will be absolutely our special,” he said.

So you don’t waste your money.
