Santee YMCA allows naked man to use women’s locker room with underage girls

SANTI (CUSI) – Recently, 17-year-old Rebecca Phillips visited Santi YMCA to work out after work, as she usually does.

But this time, when she was showering, she ran into a naked man in the women’s locker while she was showering. Rebecca is underage and has explained to the Santee City Council that she fears for her safety.

She ran to the stall to hide and change before informing the staff that a naked man was freely using the women’s locker room.

The staff said that a man who claims to be transgender is allowed to shower wherever he wants. Since he identifies as a girl, the naked man decided to use the women’s locker room. Then, Teri Maas, director of San Diego County YMCA membership, called Phillips and informed her that she was never in danger with a naked man in the locker room.

Phillips explained that minors, her siblings frequent this YMCA and the women’s locker room, and suggested that transgender clients use the family restrooms or any additional facilities other than the women’s locker room.

Phillips said she was wrong even for suggesting such a thing.

If you remember, back in May 2022, our San Diego County Superintendent officially issued a ruling redefining what it means to be a “woman.”

Oversight bodies Nathan Fletcher, Terra Lawson-Remer and Nora Vargas voted in favor of the ruling, leaving underage girls like Rebecca Phillips fearful for their safety.

RELATED STORY: The San Diego County Supervisory Authority has formally adopted a resolution to reconsider the concept of “woman”.

KUSI News has reached out to the San Diego County YMCA for comment, their official statement is below;

We are aware of the situation with two contestants in the locker room of the Santee YMCA earlier this month. The comfort and safety of all our members is our highest priority.

As a community oriented organization, we strive to meet the needs of all people. We recognize that birth and gender identity are sensitive topics. We rely on subject matter experts, laws, and guidelines established by the State of California to ensure that our policies are welcoming and respectful of all members of the community.

As part of this commitment to the comfort of all, we are reviewing locker room plans across all of our association’s facilities. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to additional privacy when needed and desired.
