Santa Cruz residents asked to cancel all travel due to winter storm

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA (KION-TV) — Santa Cruz County said snow, ice, falling trees and downed wires are impacting several roads in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Residents are being asked to cancel all travel plans unless it is an emergency.

“Public safety and road crews are significantly overwhelmed and rescue or other assistance may not be possible if travelers become stranded, trapped or otherwise in need of assistance,” the county said.

The National Weather Service says cold weather will continue through the weekend.

Libraries and other public facilities can be used for heating, using the public Internet and other public facilities. Call ahead to confirm local opening hours, some may be affected by the weather.
