San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones: How to Get Rid of SANDAG’s Unpopular Road User Fees

SAN DIEGO (CUSI) – The SANDAG Executive Committee met Friday and advanced 5-1, with Mayor Rebecca Jones as the only no vote for the Board of Directors to support all legislative efforts to “expand access to resources and technical tools that will enable SANDAG to implement a regional plan including pricing, managed lanes, high traffic toll lanes, easing current restrictions on transponder technology, priority transit service, traffic demand management and other measures to promote efficient use of highways and local roads. “.

SANDAG’s final vote was to support all legislative efforts that would allow SANDAG to implement its regional transportation plan.

San Marcos Mayor and SANDAG board member, Rebecca Jones, is the leading opponent of the Regional Transportation Plan and disrupted the latest vote in KUSI’s Good Morning San Diego process.

SANDAG Chairman Nora Vargas confirmed to KUSI News that she will be interviewed on February 20th.

SANDAG’s proposed regional transport plan will include:

  • Converting motorways and local roads to toll roads
  • Replacing the carpool with more than two people
  • Allowing only buses in some current lanes
  • Removal of restrictions on transponder technology
  • Lower the threshold to 2/3 to make it easier to pay taxes.
