San Antonio PD Arrests Man for Shooting Attempted Catalytic Converter Thief
A suspected thief was shot by an employee whilst attempting to steal a catalytic converter in San Antonio, Texas on Monday morning. The incident occurred on San Pedro Near Basse Road, where the employee, who remains unidentified, was working at a nearby business. The suspect, also unidentified, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to the police, the alleged shooter ran into the parking lot when he noticed someone trying to steal the converter, which is a highly sought-after item among criminals. The shooting victim attempted to flee in his vehicle and hit the employee, who then “pulled out a gun and shot at him, striking him in the lower body.”
The employee was subsequently arrested and charged after the altercation, which took place just before 7 a.m. Police officials stated that “every case is different,” and that they must take into account the totality of circumstances before determining whether or not someone’s actions are justified.
Eurospeed International, a car dealership located doors down from where the shooting occurred, has experienced numerous catalytic converter thefts in recent times. General Manager Eli Sepulveda expressed frustration with the frequency of such crimes and called for greater action to be taken at the local level, including the formation of a dedicated team to combat the issue.
