Authorities in the city of San Antonio have asked Austin officials to help transport asylum seekers to their sponsorship locations, according to an announcement from the city of Austin, which says there has been “significant fluctuation” in the number of migrants arriving in the city of Alamo in recent months. .

San Antonio did not provide any specific data on recent trends in individuals served at the local migrant resource center, but the city said the collaboration began on Wednesday. These migrants usually fly out of San Antonio International Airport to contact their American sponsors.

“Our goal is to support our neighboring cities, help asylum seekers reach their sponsored destination safely and with dignity, and keep the airport busy and able to respond to local emergencies,” said Juan Ortiz, Austin Office Director . The Ministry of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the report said.

“We are grateful to our neighbors in Austin for partnering with us to ensure that asylum seekers reach their destination in the host city,” added San Antonio Deputy City Director Maria Villagomez.

Officials said migrants who flew out of Austin-Bergstrom International filled out initial paperwork assigned to asylum seekers. Up to 120 people are expected to arrive in Austin by bus each day as the city helps them fly out.
