Sam Smith under fire in New York after ‘demonic’ Grammy performance

Sam Smith was heavily criticized in New York following their widely criticized “demonic” performance at the Grammys – with a video of an irate woman screaming that the British singer was “a place in hell”.

“Sam Smith belongs in hell!” an Irish woman squeals at the 30-year-old artist in a clip that was posted on social media late Wednesday night and has since gone viral.

“You demonic, sick, twisted son of a bitch,” she continues to rant as the “Stay With Me” singer ignores her and walks toward what appears to be the entrance to the Central Park Zoo.

“You sick bastard, Sam Smith! You’re evil!” the unidentified woman screams again following Smith’s nasty accusations of being a “pedophile”.

Smith, who recently came out as non-binary and uses the they/them pronouns, appeared unfazed throughout the verbal attack.

The woman’s violence erupted following the pop star’s controversial performance of their hit “Unholy” with German singer Kim Petras at the 65th Grammy Awards on February 5.

In a racy performance, the duo and their backup dancers wore risqué, blood-red devil-themed costumes.

Smith complemented their sinister outfit with a hat with devil horns, while Petras, 30, donned a satanic-inspired headdress.

The incredible show also included large fireballs and Petras performing in a cage surrounded by whip dancers.

The diabolical production quickly drew numerous complaints from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), most of which denounced the performance as “glorifying” Satan.

Even politicians have spoken publicly.

Senator Ted Cruz (D-Texas) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (D-Georgia) both tweeted about their disgust at the “evil” and “demonic” performance.

Despite the controversy, Smith and Patras won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance later that night for the song, making the 30-year-old Petras the first transgender woman to win a Grammy.

“I want to thank all the incredible transgender legends before me who opened those doors with their feet,” Petras said emotionally later.

German singer-songwriter Petras identifies as transgender. Born a man, she turned into a woman at the age of 13.

Smith has already spoken about the abuse they endured after declaring themselves non-binary in 2019, including spitting on the street in the UK.

“It’s so sad that we’re living in 2023 and this is still happening,” Smith told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in January.

“It’s exhausting, especially in England.”
