Royal Caribbean cruise ship rescues 17 migrants on their way to the Bahamas

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship rescued 17 migrants at sea on Saturday morning.

The Liberty of the Seas took off from the Port of the Everglades in Fort Lauderdale and was heading towards Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, when the captain spotted migrants in a small boat.

Royal Caribbean released the following statement to WPTV:

“On the way to the Bahamas, Liberty of the Seas found a small ship drifting with the current and in need of help. The crew of the ship immediately began a rescue operation, safely bringing 17 people on board. The crew is actively providing medical assistance to them and is working with the US Coast Guard.”
