The Riordan Crusaders were cleared to remain in the California Interschool Federation (CIF) Division I tournament after a brawl at the end of Thursday night’s win over Indercum, but they are likely to enter Saturday’s game against Granada without a few players and they have forfeited their hosting privileges. any remaining games.

“Eligible players from Archbishop Riordan will advance to the NorCal Boys Basketball Division I semi-finals on March 4 against Granada High School,” CIF said in a press release.

The release did not provide details on which players would be eligible, as some of the players involved in the brawl are underage.

The game will be played at the originally scheduled time of 19:00 in Granada with number nine in Livermore. Under normal circumstances, Riordan would have been the host as the fourth seed. If the Crusaders win, they’ll be on the road again for the Northern California Championship on Tuesday night against either the 6th Salesian or the 10th San Ramon Valley despite being ranked higher.

Thursday night’s play was stopped with 1:15 left in a fight that started after Achilles Woodson pushed an Inderkum player in the back. Woodson was knocked out after a blow to the back of the head by Inderkum’s Jeremiah Butler. Shortly thereafter, he regained consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The game is recorded as a 61-52 victory for Riordan, which was at the time it was stopped.

A CIF press release states: “The CIF State Office, the CIF Central Coastal Section and the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Offices continue to work with the Inderkum and Archbishop Riordan administrations regarding the suspension of games between students and athletes.”

Riordan is a member of the Central Coast Section (CCS) and Indercum is a member of the Saca-Joaquin Section (SJS).

Depending on how the CIF and CCS decide to discipline the players, and depending on how broadly the governing bodies decide to define coming off the bench during a fight, Riordan (23-6) could lose significantly to the Matadors. The Granada (24-10) are led by 7-foot St. Mary’s Andrew McKeever and 6-foot 7-shooter Tyler Harris. The Matadors hit the road and upset top seed Clovis West 70–62 in overtime on Thursday night.
