Rescued alligator with taped mouth

PALMDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — An alligator that was spotted in a Florida pond with its mouth taped over and rescued has now found a new home.

Gatorama, a family zoo and licensed alligator farm in Palmdale, Florida, announced in a press release that Georgie the alligator has found a new home.

Ben Register, general manager of Gatorama, quickly checked on Georgie as soon as he arrived at work Friday morning.

“So far, she feels good, and she will be offered to feed as soon as it gets warmer,” Register said. “Though she probably won’t eat for a few days due to the stress of the move and the ordeal she’s been through.”

After a health check, Georgie will have her own exclusive pond while she acclimates to the environment. It is currently separated from larger alligator ponds so it does not have to compete for food and territory.

Gatorama is home to many pesky alligators. They partner with hunters so they don’t have to kill alligators.

Gatorama said that the hunter who brought Georgie even built a special trailer for the alligators so he wouldn’t have to tape their mouths during transport.

“We are grateful that Georgie was finally caught. I used to catch alligators with my father, and I know how difficult it is to catch alligators in an overgrown settling pond,” Register said.
