Report: Boeing to cut 2,000 finance and HR positions in 2023

The company said Boeing plans to cut staff in the aerospace company’s finance and human resources departments in 2023, resulting in the loss of about 2,000 jobs.

“We expect about 2,000 layoffs, primarily in finance and human resources, through layoffs and layoffs,” Boeing said in a statement Monday. “While no one has been notified of the job loss, we will continue to share information transparently so people can plan.”

The company, which recently moved its headquarters to Arlington, Virginia, said it expects to “significantly increase” its total workforce during the year. “We added 15,000 employees to Boeing last year and plan to hire 10,000 more this year with a focus on design and manufacturing,” the statement said.

According to the company, the total number of Boeing employees as of December 31, 2022 was 156,000.

The Seattle Times reported that Boeing, which was one of the largest private employers in Washington state, plans to turn over about a third of the liquidated jobs to Tata Consulting Services in Bangalore, India.

Mike Friedman, senior director of communications, told the Times that other positions will be eliminated as the company cuts financial and human resources.

“Over time, some of our corporate functions have grown to enormous proportions. And with that growth, there tends to be bureaucracies or disparate systems that become inefficient,” Friedman said. “So we’re optimizing.”

The Times reported that about 1,500 of the company’s approximately 5,800 financial positions will be cut, as well as up to 400 more human resources positions, about 15% of the department’s total workforce.
