Regal Cinemas to close Shadowood 16 theater west of Boca Raton

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — The second largest movie theater chain in the country has announced the opening of closure of 39 more locations throughout the country, including two in South Florida.

One movie theater that will close soon is the Shadowood 16 cinema just west of Boca Raton.

The movie theater, which first opened in 1987, is located in a mall on the northeast corner of Glades Road and U.S. Route 441.

Regal Cinemas recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In a statement this week, parent company Cineworld said it plans to cancel 39 theater leases from February 15th.

The box office at Shadowood 16 theater west of Boca Raton, Florida closed on the morning of January 21, 2023, a day after Regal Cinemas announced it and 38 other theaters across the country were closing.

The only other Regal Cinemas in Florida to be on a cutting board is South Beach in Miami Beach.

Regal Cinemas closed 12 theaters last year, but none in Florida.

Located between Best Buy and Old Navy stores, Shadowood 16 is one of the last remaining anchor tenants in the area.

Stein Mart, which once occupied space in the same square, will permanently close along with all 278 other stores in 2020.
