Record 12 manatees released into the wild in Central Florida

CENTRAL FLORIDA, Florida (WSVN) — Rescued manatees go wild after an unprecedented release.

The twelve sea cows were returned to their natural habitat on Monday morning.

Blue Spring State Park in Central Florida is one of the largest collection sites for this species in the state.

This is the largest number of manatees released in one day.

Most of them were orphans whose mothers starved to death due to lack of seaweed.

They have all been equipped with GPS tracking devices to monitor how they are adjusting to their natural habitat.
