Punta Gorda man arrested on charges of drug possession

CHARLOTT COUNTY, Florida. Deputies arrested a Punta Gorda man for possession of cocaine and marijuana after traffic was stopped on Monday.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, police detained a man driving a 2005 Nissan Armada due to a breach of a seat belt and a possible violation of window tint. When the deputies approached the car, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana. The driver, identified as Milton S. Harris (09/28/1981), was the subject of an ongoing drug investigation. At this time, the deputies asked Harris to get out of the car. During a conversation with him, Harris revealed that he did not have a medical card for marijuana and that his girlfriend had been smoking in the car. He was informed that a search for a probable cause would be carried out at that time.

Deputies report seeing small pieces of suspected marijuana on the floorboard that have been field tested with a positive result.

They also say they found a small cardboard box on the front passenger floor. This box contained several bags of what was believed to be additional marijuana and several bags of a white substance believed to be cocaine. Both substances have been tested and given positive results as such. The deputies also found several small empty bags that are commonly used in the sale of drugs. The packages matched the packages containing the suspected cocaine.

The search found 119 grams that tested positive for cannabis and 39 grams that tested positive for cocaine.

Milton Harris was arrested on multiple drug possession charges, including cocaine trafficking, possession of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
