Protest against abortion rights “For Life” in San Francisco

Activists on both sides of the abortion issue are holding events in San Francisco on Saturday, a day before the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a US Supreme Court ruling granting women the right to terminate pregnancies.

This decision was reversed in 2022, but action continues on both sides.

The anti-abortion organization Walk For Life West Coast held its annual rally and march. at the Civic Center Plaza at 335 McAlister Street. After the rally, participants marched down Market Street to the Embarcadero Plaza at Market Street and Stewart Street.

Prior to the rally, more than a dozen groups, in collaboration with the National Mobilization for Reproductive Justice-SF, will gather at 11:30 a.m. outside the Philip Burton Federal Building at 450 Golden Gate Ave. After the rally, participants will march down Larkin Street to the Civic Counter-Protest Center.

Among the participants of the counter-protest are the Socialist Party of Freedom, “Mad Grannies”,

RiseUp for Abortion Rights – Bay Area and Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco.

Largely in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling, California lawmakers passed a series of additional guarantees of access to abortion, as well as a constitutional amendment in a November vote that was overwhelmingly approved by voters.
