Private funeral for Pembroke Pines police driver to be held in Davie

DAVI, Florida. (WSVN) — A Pembroke Pines police officer who died in the line of duty will be buried Monday.

On Thursday, Charles Herring was riding his motorcycle when a palm branch fell from a tree, knocking him off his bike; he died in the hospital.

The 54-year-old officer was a 21-year police veteran and became the first officer in the history of the Pembroke Pines Police Department to die in the line of duty.

The memorial service was held on Friday evening.

Herring is remembered as a kind, sincere person who left four children.

At 10:00 am, private memorial services were held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Davie.
