Prisoner dies in San Francisco prison

An unidentified prisoner died while in custody at the San Francisco County Jail, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

Officials said the man required emergency medical attention and that although life-saving measures were taken, they were unsuccessful.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the deceased have been under medical supervision since they were placed in San Francisco County Jail No. 2. This prison is the only one in the city where women are kept.

The prisoner’s name will not be released until family members are notified.
