Power is still out for Shangri-La residents in St. James City after Hurricane Yan.

ST. JAMES CITY, Florida. If you take a stroll through the Shangri-La Mobile home park in St. James City, you will feel like time has stopped. There are also piles of personal belongings and debris from the hurricane. Not to mention the hum of several generators.

Nearly 5 months after Hurricane Yang, residents like Katy say they still don’t have power and are trying to pick up the pieces.

Katy shared with Fox 4’s Amy Wegmann that she weathered the storm on her vanity table in her motorhome and prayed for her life.

She says she is grateful to be alive even though she has lost almost everything. Now all she needs is help moving forward.

Katie says the park owner told her it could take a year before they could fix the problem. A hired electrician ordered a needed part, but it was delayed for several months!

Fox 4 called the owner of Shangri-La and contacted Streamlined Property Management for answers.

Rene Graves of Streamlined says, “It’s the stuff. We found the material, it’s a gearbox, and the electrician ordered it, but it’s expected to be delivered in about 250 business days.”

The rectangular shaped D Gear Box is the part you need and keeps half the park from being able to turn on the lights.

Graves says: “Unfortunately, it’s not just one or two mobile home parks or one or two homes that are in this situation. There are a few houses and a few parks in this situation, and we are all experiencing it.”

She goes on to say that they sympathize with their residents and wish there was a different response.

Cathy wonders if FEMA or the state can do anything to help expedite the process.

Amy contacted Lee County officials, FEMA, and the Florida Department of Emergency Management to see if they could help expedite the process in any way. So far no luck. But Amy will continue to push for a solution.
