Possible wolf-dog hybrid finds new home in Vermont

It looks like the animal that made national headlines for what may have been half wolf and half dog has found a home.

The Potter League for Animals has said that “Zeus” will be heading to Vermont with its new owner, Ron.

“He’s heading to his new home in Vermont with his new dad, Ron, and we’re super excited for them,” the league said in a Facebook post.

Nothing is known about its genetic makeup.

“And we promise as soon as the DNA comes back, we will let you know the results,” the league added.

The animal was recently admitted to a shelter in Rhode Island.

According to the league, the dog’s previous owner confirmed its breed.

“If you think this majestic dog looks awfully like a wolf hybrid, you are most likely right. We think Zeus is 1/3 German Shepherd, 1/3 Husky, and 1/3 Wolf.” Potter The Family League, based in Middletown, split on January 6th.

The shelter has received a flood of applications for adoption.

“We are pleasantly surprised by the number of people who have reached out to us and how far the post has gone,” the league told FOX. “I can say with confidence that we have received dozens of applications, but this does not include the number of messages, emails and calls that were non-stop.”

The league said that Zeus’s private ownership of Rhode Island and adjacent states was illegal. They also noted a health condition in the animal that makes it prone to seizures, which are controlled by medications.

“Zeus is no ordinary neighborhood dog,” the league continued. “He’s big, over 100 pounds … can easily climb over a six-foot fence, so his ideal home and family would include the experience of owning a large breed dog or wolf hybrid and being able to keep him safely.”

Zeus has previously lived with other dogs, cats and children and has been a pet for most of his life, making placement in the shelter unacceptable, the shelter explained.
