Port St. Lucie murder suspect fatally shot by police in Fort Lauderdale.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. A Port St. Lucie murder suspect was shot and killed by police on Tuesday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Patrick Lynn said his officers received intelligence that a man wanted on suspicion of murder in Port St. Lucie was driving a silver pickup truck around town.

There was a short chase before the suspect stopped and engaged the police, Lynn said.

“Our officers have taken actions that they believe were necessary to protect themselves,” Lynn told reporters at a press conference.

Port St. Lucie police identified the suspect as Manuel Sanabria, who was wanted due to the death of another person on Monday evening.

Lynn did not say how the suspect “enlisted” the officers, but said that several officers opened fire.

Police Sergeant Port Saint Lucie. John Dellacroce said Sanabria, 41, fled in a silver Dodge Ram pickup.

Aerial video from NBC affiliate WTVJ featured a silver Dodge Ram pickup surrounded by police tape.
