San Antonio authorities reported a harrowing incident in which a murder suspect returned to the crime scene and opened fire on police officers. The incident occurred as officers were conducting an investigation at the home of a potential murder victim in south San Antonio. The suspect, a man in his mid-40s, was fatally shot by officers after he fired at them.
According to SAPD Chief William McManus, the suspect arrived at the scene and immediately rammed a patrol car. He then proceeded to pull out a gun and fired at an officer standing nearby. Fortunately, none of the officers were injured during the sudden attack.
The events leading up to the confrontation began when someone called the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) to report that the suspect had claimed to have killed his partner the previous night. Responding officers arrived at the area of Barrett and South Flores around 9 p.m. and discovered the lifeless body of a woman with gunshot wounds.
The situation quickly escalated when the suspect returned to the scene. Although it is unclear how many shots were fired, a total of seven officers were involved in the exchange of gunfire. The investigation into this fourth shooting involving SAPD in the current year is still in its early stages. The identity of the woman found dead in her home has not been released.
Chief McManus revealed that the suspect killed by police had a lengthy criminal record involving violent offenses and was out on bond at the time of the incident. He commended the officers for their actions, stating that they followed their training and defended themselves against deadly force.
