Police say the two men have been arrested almost a year after the fatal shooting at the Tavares housing estate.
LAKE COUNTY, Florida. — Two men have been arrested nearly a year after a shooting at the Tavares housing estate left one dead and another wounded, police said Tuesday.
Dustin Travis Perdue, 27, and Octavius Marquez, Jarrod Reid, 23, were arrested in connection with the April 2022, 8:00 pm shooting at the Caroline Court Apartments, located at 1000 E. Caroline St.
Upon arrival, police said they found a man, later identified as 29-year-old Alejandro Garcia Jr., dead and another man, later identified as 31-year-old Darnell Lester, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Lester was airlifted to a local emergency room, police said.

After a 10-month investigation, the Criminal Investigation Division said Purdue and Reid were charged in connection with the shooting in a first-degree murder case, attempted murder, and the use of a firearm on a residential property.
Purdue faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and Reed faces an additional charge of possession of a concealed firearm.
Police said Reed was arrested Monday night and Perdue has been in the Lake County Jail since August 2022 in connection with robberies in several counties. According to police, he was released from prison in February 2022, two months before the fatal shooting in Tavares, after serving 10 years on unrelated charges before being arrested again.
The motive for the shooting is currently unavailable as the case is closed by the courts, investigators said.
