The woman had been in the area previously to exchange custody of her children with their father, who lived in the complex, police said.

Witnesses said the woman appeared agitated when she arrived at the compound and allegedly broke into the apartment before being forcibly taken away, the report said.

Police said they learned from witnesses that the woman was brandishing a gun before leaving the compound.

When Martin and the woman returned, they were shot on the second-floor walkway next to the apartment, although the motive for the shooting was unknown at the time of this report, police said.

Police said Warren was found with a firearm during his arrest on Thursday. He faces charges of second-degree murder with a firearm, attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm, records show.
