Police say 2 of 4 security guards were shot near the parking lot of an event site in southeast Houston.

HOUSTON — An investigation is underway after three people, including two security guards, were shot dead near a parking lot after a fight outside a private concert in southeast Houston early Saturday, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of shooting near Tumbling R Ranch The Fairgrounds in the 4900 block of Fuqua near Cottingham Street around 3 am, HPD Lieutenant R. Wilkens said.

Police said a private concert was taking place at the back of the hall. At around 2 am, security guards at the site asked people to leave the venue as the event ended.

Later, the guard was confronted by two suspects, possibly armed with rifles, and at some point shots were fired. Two more guards rushed to help the first guard.

The argument later escalated and all three guards drew their weapons and returned fire on the suspects, with two of the three guards being wounded at one point.

At a press conference, Assistant Police Chief T. Hardin said the man was trying to pick up his girlfriend from the event when shots rang out. That was when Hardin said the man was later shot to death after running into two suspects in the street from the venue.

The two injured guards were taken to local hospitals, where police say they will survive.

The condition of the third victim is not known at this time.

Police said a fourth victim, possibly a bystander, arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound from the fight.

All the guards involved cooperated with the authorities. One of them told KPRC 2’s Rilvan Balogun that the shooting was due to “a misunderstanding that led to an altercation”.

“(This) altercation led to a possible shooting or shooting, so my security team and I handled it the best we could,” he added.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the HPD Major Assault Unit at 713-308-3100 or the Crime Enforcement Unit at 713-222-TIPS.
