Police: One dead, three injured in El Paso mall shooting

El Paso police say one person died and three were injured when someone opened fire inside.

EL PASO, Texas. El Paso, Texas police say one person was killed and three others injured in a shooting at a mall on Wednesday.

One person was taken into custody, El Paso police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez said. There was no immediate information about this person.

“It’s too early to speculate about motives,” Gomez said.

According to Gomez, three of the wounded were hospitalized. Their conditions were not known.

Gomez said police believe the scene is safe and that cops are combing the entire mall to make sure.

The authorities set up a reunion center at a nearby high school.

Wednesday’s shooting took place in a busy shopping district and in a large parking lot at Walmart, where 23 people were killed in a racist attack in 2019.

Last week, Patrick Crusius pleaded guilty to federal charges of racist assault. Crusius, 24, turned himself in to police after the massacre, saying “I shot” and that, according to court records, he shot Mexicans.
