Police make arrest in connection with deadly house fire and explosion in San Francisco

San Francisco police announced Friday night that they have arrested a 53-year-old suspect in a deadly house fire and explosion in the Sunset neighborhood.

At around 4:30 p.m. Friday, San Francisco police and investigators located the suspect in a residential area on Newhall Street and worked out a possible reason for his arrest.

Suspect, identified as Darron Price of San Franciscowas imprisoned in the San Francisco County Jail on charges of manslaughter, drug manufacture, and two counts of endangering children.

The fire broke out Thursday morning in the 1700 block of 22nd Avenue.

Sources told the NBC Bay Area Investigation Unit that firefighters arrived after several explosions, they found what appeared to be a pressure cooker in the garage that had been used to make some form of drug. They also found several canisters used to extract cannabis oil.

Neighbors also returned home on Friday to repair damage to their property following Thursday’s explosion. Part of 22nd Avenue was still on lockdown Friday. In addition, heavy equipment was still at the site, removing debris and a number of cylinders, tanks and other items.

Despite the fact that the arrest was made, the case continues to be actively investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department’s 24-hour Advice Line at (415) 575-4444 or text TIP411 and start a text message with the SFPD.
