Police are looking for a second suspect in the murder of a 74-year-old woman found tied up in a New York home

Following the arrest of a man believed to be responsible for the death of a 74-year-old woman who was found dead with her hands and feet tied on the floor of her Upper West Side apartment, police are now looking for a second suspect who may be linked to murder.

The NYPD said another man may have been involved in Maria Hernandez’s death, who was found by her sister, who also lives in an apartment building on West 83rd Street. The victim was bound and gagged in his ransacked apartment.

“Wow, I’m still in shock. I can not believe this. This is the most terrible moment in my life,” said Maria Terrero.

Terrero went upstairs to check on his sister after Hernandez’s daughter called and said she hadn’t heard from her mother.

It was not immediately clear what role the second suspect might have played, but an image of the person they were allegedly looking for was released (below).

Police are looking for the man in connection with the death of 74-year-old Maria Hernandez in her Upper West Side apartment.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD Crime Prevention Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or Spanish at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging into the CrimeStoppers website or @NYPDTips Twitter.

The search for another suspect began just two days after Lawshon McKee was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and burglary. Any potential motives in the case or details of what led to the murder are still unknown.

Police had previously said McKee, 47, may have worked in the same building where Hernandez was found.

Police and ambulance responded around 10 p.m. and found Hernandez face down on the bedroom floor with clothes folded over her, officials told News 4. Her injuries included fractures and external bruising all over her body.

“I find her in the bedroom on the floor, her body is covered with all this, I can hardly see her. It’s terrible, it’s traumatic, it’s unbelievable,” Terrero said.

A forensic medical examination will determine the cause of her death.

The homicide detectives investigating Hernandez’s death ran into a difficult obstacle: the building’s surveillance system had been ripped out of the basement. Investigators began extended video footage of the ring cameras and other outdoor cameras in the immediate area, hoping to get a glimpse of the intruder.

Hernandez was a mother and grandmother known in the neighborhood for going out with her sister and another friend.

“I think I’m living a very bad dream right now. This is the only thing I can say. I trust the authorities, I know that they are working very hard. I believe they will get justice for her,” Terrero said. .
