Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Prompts Police Probe in Hopewell
Hopewell, NJ – In a tragic incident on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 6:25 p.m., a motor vehicle collided with a pedestrian at the intersection of E. Broad St. and Elm St., according to the Hopewell Township Police. The police units promptly responded to the scene, where they found the injured pedestrian and provided immediate aid, along with the assistance of EMS personnel.
The pedestrian, identified as a 48-year-old man from Hopewell Borough, sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to receive further medical evaluation and treatment. Currently, the pedestrian remains in critical but stable condition, with severe head injuries that are being closely monitored.
The driver involved in the incident, a 61-year-old man from Lambertville, stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with the police during the on-scene investigation. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash.
Based on the initial investigation, it has been determined that the vehicle was traveling west on E. Broad St. when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street at the designated crosswalk. The circumstances leading up to the collision are currently under investigation by Officer Robert Voorhees and Detective Chris Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department, in collaboration with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
As a result of the accident, E. Broad St. was temporarily closed to traffic to facilitate the initial investigation. However, the road was reopened shortly after the necessary procedures were completed.
