David DePape — the Bay Area man facing charges in connection with the October hammer attack on the husband of Nancy Pelosi speaker emeritus, Paul Pelosi — called a local TV station Friday afternoon to talk about the event.

Amber Lee of KTVU FOX2 received a call from the San Francisco County Jail on the day body camera footage of the attack was released. DePape made what appeared to be a prepared statement to Lee, in which he showed no remorse for Pelosi’s suffering and instead appeared to intend to anger the extremists.

“Now that you’ve all seen the footage from the body camera, I have an important message for everyone in America: welcome,” he said in a recorded telephone conversation.

“Liberty and liberty do not die; he is killed systematically and deliberately. The people who kill him have names and addresses. So I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit and talk heart to heart about their bad behavior.”

He continued to taunt the “patriots” who oppose “tyranny”, saying, “I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was very bad. I’m so sorry that I didn’t get more of them. […] I should have come better prepared.”

The suspect, who faces state and federal charges including attempted murder, elder abuse and attempted kidnapping of a federal officer, also spoke of his “over 300 page website” which he claims is subjected to censorship. He may have been referring to the WordPress blog that bears his name, which was updated as recently as August, and contained posts with titles such as “Photographic (sic) PROOF of hybrid alien-human infiltrators”; “My Favorite Joe Rogan Episode”; and Big Lies.

DePape was arrested after San Francisco police responded to reports of a break-in at Pelosi’s home in the city’s Pacific Heights neighborhood in the early hours of October 28, 2022. the assailant takes control and punches Pelosi, who falls to the ground. Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and other injuries that required surgery. Recently released footage from body cameras seems to confirm the officers’ version.

The suspect told federal law enforcement that he broke into Pelosi’s home because he planned to find Nancy Pelosi and take her hostage, and if she “lied” he “broke her kneecaps.” According to the complaint, he said, “she would then need to be taken to Congress, which would show other members of Congress that actions have consequences.”

DePape, who has pleaded not guilty to all state and federal charges, is scheduled to appear in San Francisco Supreme Court Feb. 23 to set a state trial date for him.
