Orlando Shooter’s Incompetence to Stand Trial Sparks Widower’s Reaction

ORLANDO, Fla. – The husband of a woman who was tragically shot and killed while driving in Orlando earlier this year expressed his hope for the shooter to face trial in the near future. Angila Baxter, 56, was apprehended in January after seemingly shooting at vehicles indiscriminately, as reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

During this disturbing event, Nekaybaw Collier, 27, was struck by a bullet and subsequently found in a crashed car less than a mile away from her residence in the 5200 block of Powers Drive. Baxter was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, second-degree murder, and two counts of shooting into a vehicle. However, on Thursday, a judge declared Baxter incompetent to stand trial.

Following the hearing, Kevin Moore, the bereaved husband of the victim, expressed his disappointment regarding the delay in bringing his wife’s accused assailant to trial. Moore passionately conveyed, “I want everyone to understand that my wife was a loving and devoted mother to our children. She was an extraordinary partner in life.” Moore also emphasized his support for 56-year-old Angila Baxter to receive necessary mental health treatment.

According to the detectives assigned to the case, Baxter’s actions appeared to be erratic and unpredictable, as she seemingly targeted innocent bystanders with no apparent motive. Moore further expressed the challenges of accepting the tragic loss and shared, “It’s particularly difficult because my wife was an innocent bystander. This aspect weighs heavily on me because she had not done anything wrong.”

Amidst this harrowing ordeal, Moore’s primary focus remains on raising their two daughters. He acknowledged the difficulties they face in experiencing life without their mother but vowed to preserve cherished memories of her. Moore courageously stated, “It has been an uphill battle trying to show our daughters a life without her, but all we can do is hold onto the precious moments we shared.”
