Artificial intelligence is changing the world as we know it, and now it is making its way into education with the advent of ChatGPT. The media and educators have been thrilled since its debut, with some impressed by the technology and others concerned about its potential misuse in educational settings.

While some universities banned by ChatGPT in their programs, others preferred change essay and exam tips to make it harder for the instrument to answer them on behalf of the student. However, instead of focusing only on potential misuse, educators should explore ways to use ChatGPT as an additional teaching tool to achieve positive results.

If students use this technology to create entire essays, this is clearly a problem that undermines the purpose of the assignment in the first place. But the conversation about ChatGPT usually starts and ends with how it can be abused.

ChatGPT has many benefits, and banning it from being used in the classroom only makes it more attractive to use AI to cheat, as the restrictions are inherently conducive to intrigue. New York University has no policy which does not yet cover the use of this tool and its limitations, but professors should consider using the new technology and its academic potential.

With the advent of new technologies, it becomes possible to use them to increase performance or destroy the system. Now a versatile tool to help students solve all sorts of math problems, the calculator can easily be used without having to do the work required to understand basic math concepts like multiplication and division. But just because we are aware of the potential for misuse of calculators does not mean that we have resorted to banning them. Instead, educators discourage the inappropriate use of technology while finding ways to positively incorporate technology into their courses. The same approach should apply to AI like ChatGPT.

We shouldn’t feed on our initial fears fear and panic about this new and life-changing technology, we should spend more time thinking about how we can use these new systems to our advantage. ChatGPT can complement classroom learning by providing additional resources for students who want to deepen their understanding of a given subject.

Professors can use this technology to create examples for classroom assignments. For examplestudents, especially English learners, could use this model to obtain feedback on their spelling and grammarwhich allows them to improve their work.

ChatGPT can also be used as a way to develop information literacy skills by having students analyze AI-generated texts to look for misinformation. Teachers can use ChatGPT to create texts on a variety of topics and then challenge students to evaluate the accuracy of the results while honing their research and critical thinking skills. These examples are just a small selection. positive use for ChatGPT as an educational tool. It makes it all the more tragic that we seem to be so focused on his flaws.

As students, we are taught from an early age that academic integrity is a core value of education. In middle and high school, we are constantly told to never copy other people’s work and try to present it as our own. Every NYU course has a section called “Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism” or some variation of it, as required by NYU.

Given this emphasis on academic integrity, it’s no surprise that both scientists and educational institutions are scrutinizing ChatGPT. New York Department of Education access denied to ChatGPT site on the Internet networks of public schools. This decision may have been made due to concerns about the website’s content and security, but the move also resulted in a limitation of the educational resources available to students, especially those who use the website to learn the language or access educational materials.

While it is important to recognize potential disadvantages, it is equally important to consider the opportunities presented by new technology. Educators should encourage their students to experience the positive aspects of ChatGPT in a way that promotes their learning, not just discourages its use. By using ChatGPT and other emerging technologies to complement classroom learning, we can create more positive student outcomes and ultimately benefit the education system as a whole.
