One dead, seven injured in Auckland shooting

One person was killed and seven others injured in a shootout on Monday evening in the 5900 block of MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland.

According to Kim Armstead, an Oakland police officer and department spokesman, the shooting happened just after 6 p.m.

Police were sent to the scene to investigate after receiving an alert from the city’s ShotSpotter shot detection system. According to an official Facebook post, the police found shell casings, but there were no casualties at the scene. Later, the police department became aware of many victims with gunshot wounds who took themselves to local hospitals.

“At the moment, we are aware of eight victims, one has died, the rest of the victims are listed in a stable condition,” the ministry said on its official Facebook page. “The identity of the deceased victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.”

A KRON 4 report on the shooting indicated that the shooting took place in front of a gas station at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Seminary Avenue.
