On the two-year anniversary of the horrific acid attack on an Elmont resident, legislator Solages, Nassau Police announce a $50,000 reward for the arrest of the assailant

Nearly two years after Nafia Ikram was the victim of a horrific acid attack on her driveway in Elmont, her attacker remains at large and her case remains unsolved.
Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages (D – Lawrence) joined Nafia Ikram and her family, County Executive Bruce Blakeman, police officials and government colleagues at NCPD headquarters in Mineola on Wednesday, Feb. 8, to announce that the total award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who attacked Nafiya was increased to $50,000.
Nafia was attacked on the evening of Wednesday, March 17, 2021. According to the Nassau County Police Department, Nafia was walking down the driveway to her home on Arlington Avenue when an unidentified man approached her from behind. The suspect had a white cup filled with a dark substance, which he then threw in the victim’s face. The suspect, approximately 6ft 2in tall, of a slim build, wearing a black hoodie and gloves, fled eastbound on Arlington Avenue in a 2013-15 Nissan Altima.
According to the GoFundMe page (warning – graphic, disturbing images), Nafia suffered severe burns to her face, eyes, chest, arms and lungs and was hospitalized for several weeks. She continues to undergo numerous procedures for her injuries. All this time she continued to study at Hofstra University and was a courageous beacon of perseverance and grace.
“Nafia Ikram has inspired us all with the determination, dignity and courage she has shown during this unimaginable ordeal,” legislator Solages said. “We must all work together to support Nafia and ensure that no family is ever subjected to such atrocities again. I am very grateful for the cooperation and strong support from the Nassau County Police Department and the FBI, and I believe that together we will achieve justice for Nafia.”
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of Nafia’s attacker is strongly advised to contact the Nassau County Crime Squad at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477) or the FBI at tip.fbi. gov or 1-800-225-5325 (1-800-CALL-FBI).
