Oklahoma police are “actively searching” for missing 4-year-old Athena Brownfield using infrared helicopters and boats.

A four-year-old girl from Cyril, Oklahoma, has still not been found after disappearing earlier this week, and authorities are asking the public to help with the investigation.

Athena Brownfield has been missing since last Tuesday, and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) deployed infrared helicopters, boats, four-wheelers and personnel on the ground to search the nearby area to find her, according to OHP soldier Eric Foster.

“In the air, we flew helicopters with infrared radiation, on the ground, around the city there were many grid search on foot and in four-wheelers, and the like,” Foster said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon, FOX 25 reports. “Our Emergency Response Team (ERT), which is specially trained to walk in search of people and are in coordination with the civilians who came and were willing to volunteer their time and efforts.”

Bureau HR chief Brooke Arbeitman confirmed the information, adding: “We are still very actively looking for her using all of our tools. her.”

Authorities also used Oklahoma Department of Corrections dogs to assist in the search, according to the report.

“This is a very active and ongoing investigation and right now our top priority is her whereabouts. And then finding out who is responsible. We need to find this little girl,” Arbaitman said. “She is in the elements on her own. So, is it endangered? Yes. But was she a victim of physical harm? This is yet to be determined.”

This ground search continued throughout Wednesday but ended after volunteers searched “the entire city,” Arbaitman said.

“Today at 16:00 Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) The Emergency Response Team (ERT) has completed a web search with local volunteers. These volunteers were released after a search of the entire city, every known vacant home and local waterways,” OSBI said in a separate statement Wednesday afternoon.

It added: “Currently, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) has search dogs in the area, and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Substances (OBNDD) flies its drones over the community.”

Athena reportedly went missing around 2 p.m. Tuesday after a postal worker found my 5 year old sister alone near his residence in Cyril, which is about 70 miles (113 km) southwest of Oklahoma City.

It is unclear how long she was missing before her disappearance became known.

“We are still working on coming up with precise timelines,” Arbaitman said.

Details about the house where the girls are staying are also not immediately clear, and the whereabouts of the girls’ parents or guardians at the time of Athena’s disappearance is unknown.

“This is part of an ongoing investigation,” Arbeitman said Wednesday morning when asked about who was supposed to be watching the girls, according to KOCO News.

Many details about the 4-year-old, who was originally told by authorities to be 3 but have since been corrected, are not known. Subsequently, an Amber Alert was not issued because her disappearance did not comply with specific regulations, Foster said.

“There are specific recommendations and things that we need to follow,” he explained. “Not every part of this guide played a role in this. So the next best thing we could do was post a missing and missing notice that went out within a 15 mile radius of where she went missing.”

Law enforcement officials continue to conduct interrogations and review surveillance footage in the area. They are also asking anyone with doorbell cameras or footage of the area near West Nebraska’s 200 block to donate their resources to help with this effort.
