Oil rig fire shuts down LBJ freeway in Dallas
DALLAS – It took firefighters in Dallas more than an hour to put out the blaze after an 18-wheel truck caught fire.
The fire started around 1 a.m. Wednesday on the LBJ freeway near Hillcrest Road.
The driver reportedly heard a loud bang, looked in the rearview mirror and saw flames. He quickly stopped and got out of the truck.
A witness shot and killed a man who tried to steal a Maserati at a Dallas mall, the affidavit says.
The truck carried mixed loads but had large LPG tanks. This gas created a huge flame.
Firefighters had to burn off most of the gas. Neither the truck nor its cargo could be saved. The driver was not hurt.
Even after the flames were extinguished, the westbound LBJ remained closed due to cleanup.
