As the semester rolls on, foot traffic in NYU buildings mirrors traffic on the streets of New York City. Crowds of students enter and exit the Bobst Library, crowding the intersection of West Fourth Street and Washington Square East.

The tense atmosphere on campus was at its peak during the fall final exam season. But as the winter break approached, an unbridgeable emptiness gripped the campus. With staff cuts and a lack of faculty, as well as limited access to amenities such as buses, eateries, and clubs, the NYU campus is losing its charm of everyday hustle and bustle.

While idleness is invisible to students who are away on vacation, it is a reality for students staying on campus for the January semester. The vacant lobby of the Kimmel Center and empty lecture halls for a hundred people are a rare sight to see during the semester. During a break, this is normal.

The loneliness was peaceful as long as it lasted. Now it’s time to return to the chaos that reigns in the school and in the city.
