NYPD releases photo of man wanted for shooting neighbor in Harlem
On Thursday, police released a photo of a man they say shot dead his neighbor from Harlem after she interfered in a fight between him and his girlfriend.
Avery Dunning, 35, is wanted for the attempted murder of Jemina Garay.
Garay, 41, continued to cling to life Thursday night after neighbors and police sources said she called 911 to Dunning as he yelled at his girlfriend early Wednesday morning.
As the mother-of-six left for work around 8:25 am, Dunning ran into her in the hallway of the Lincoln Houses building on E. 135th St. near Park Avenue.
After an argument, the man pulled out a gun and shot Garay in the head and thigh.
At least one of her children watched in horror as the quick-witted neighbor treated his wounds as paramedics made their way into the apartment.
Garay was taken to a Harlem hospital where she remained in critical condition on Thursday evening.
Police released photos of Dunning in the hope that someone could find him.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (8000 577-TIPS.
