NYPD releases images of East Village murder suspect

Detectives on Saturday released images of the person wanted for fatally slashing a man outside an East Village bar, police said.

The suspect, his face partially obscured by a ski-mask, jumped victim James Cunningham during a confrontation outside of Spike’s on Ave. A and 14th St. at 1:05 a.m. Monday, cops said.

Cunningham, 51, who was a regular at Spike’s and lived nearby, had a seltzer at the bar before he left and got into an argument with his attacker outside a neighboring vacant storefront, according to cops.

The spot where James Cunningham was fatally stabbed on Ave. A and 14th St. about 1:05 a.m. Monday.

Cunningham was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he died.

Police say this man attacked James Cunningham outside of Spike’s on Ave. A and 14th St. about 1:05 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. Cunningham later died.

No arrests have been made.

Cops are asking anyone with information regarding the slasher’s whereabouts to contact (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
