NYPD floods Staten Island state forest after dog walker finds human hand

The NYPD confirmed Friday that authorities are investigating a gruesome find in the sprawling woods of Staten Island – a possible hand discovered by a man who was walking his dog in the area a day ago.

The dog walker found the potential limb in North Mount Loretto State Forest, near Amboy and Cunningham Roads, around 2:40 p.m. Thursday and called 911, police said.

Officers responded to the 200-acre space on the South Shore, as did the medical examiner’s office.

As of late Friday morning, no additional objects that could be human remains had been found, according to the latest NYPD figures, although corpse dogs had been roaming the woods for several hours.

Yellow warning tape cordoned off large areas of trees. Chopper 4 was actively investigating the scene.

No other details were forthcoming.
