NYC-Based The Halal Guys Ensures San Diego Location Is On The Horizon

January 9, 2023

Nearly 5 years since The Halal Guys announced it would be entering San Diego, the company has ensured area locations of the NYC-based Middle Eastern restaurant are still in the works.

Founded by Egyptian immigrants Mohammed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsakaas, and Abdelbaset Elsayed, The Halal Guys is a testament to the American Dream – growing from humble beginnings as a food cart on the streets of midtown Manhattan to a global icon known as the largest American Halal street food concept in the world. The Halal Guys now has over 100 restaurants worldwide with hundreds more in development.

In April 2017, we announced The Halal Guys planned to open several San Diego locations as part of a huge expansion spearheaded by franchise professionals Fransmart franchise development company. But since the announcement, there has been no updates on when and if The Halal Guys will open its first San Diego restaurant. We reached out to the company and were ensured they still are planning to open in America’s Finest City.
“We are coming, not to worry!”, responded The Halal Guys to an inquiry on if the company is still planning on opening locations in San Diego. “We don’t have any updates at this time, but will have a more concrete time frame later in the year!”

Franchisee Paul Tran, who opened The Halal Guys’ first Southern California location in Costa Mesa in 2015, is still searching for locations around San Diego as part of his aim to open up to 50 additional Southern California outposts. The Halal Guys is known for its simple menu of various Middle Eastern dishes, including gyro sandwiches, chicken-and-rice platters and the famous white and red sauces. The Halal Guys has already been well received in numerous markets including Dallas, Philadelphia, Arizona, Las Vegas, Chicago and Los Angeles.
