North Texas welcomes Trina Solar’s new million-square foot PV plant
Trina Solar, a prominent player in the solar industry, has unveiled plans to establish a significant manufacturing facility in Wilmer, North Texas, driven by its optimistic outlook on renewable energy technologies. Dallas Metro News reported the company’s intentions to set up this facility, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable solutions.
Spanning an impressive area of over one million square feet, the upcoming facility will primarily focus on the production of high-capacity photovoltaic (PV) modules, particularly the renowned Vertex modules. These modules have gained recognition for their exceptional power output. The manufacturing process in Wilmer will involve large-format, 210-millimeter wafers, while Trina Solar aims to secure its polysilicon raw materials from reliable suppliers based in the United States and Europe.
The advanced PV modules produced in this facility hold immense potential across various sectors. Notably, they will play a vital role in establishing a net-zero energy system for the upcoming Wells Fargo regional campus in Irving. This undertaking underscores the ability of renewable technologies to integrate seamlessly into significant infrastructure projects, thereby promoting sustainability.
Construction of the facility is slated to commence in 2024. This ambitious endeavor will not only foster the advancement of renewable energy but also make a substantial impact on the region’s economic development. With a staggering investment exceeding $200 million allocated for land acquisition and advanced manufacturing equipment, the project is expected to generate over 1,500 job opportunities within the local community.
Mayor Shelia Petta of Wilmer expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “This manufacturing facility will serve as a shining example of how the Wilmer community will flourish with the enduring commitment that Trina is bringing to our region.” She further emphasized the positive influence such companies have on the growth of Southern Dallas County.
Trina Solar emphasized that this facility will mark its inaugural module factory in the Western Hemisphere. Steven Zhu, the company’s President for the North American region, expressed gratitude towards Texas, Dallas County, and Wilmer for their collaborative efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
Founded in 1997, Trina Solar has been operating in the United States since 2006, specializing in clean energy solutions and offering an array of PV modules and smart energy solutions. This move to establish a manufacturing facility in Wilmer is yet another testament to the company’s commitment to advancing the renewable energy sector.
In a neighboring city, Mesquite, Canadian Solar also announced plans in June to construct a PV module production facility. With an estimated investment of $250 million, this project is set to create approximately 1,500 new jobs, further contributing to the local economy’s growth.
