North Shore Little League Transforms With Ball Park Buns and Rolls

HOUSTON It’s opening day and the North Shore Little League hit a home run!

The program started on Saturday morning with a parade, a big celebration and free food. They are one of three teams that have transformed the field thanks to Ball Park Buns and Rolls and several other sponsors.

This is a huge win for Claudia and the North Shore Little Leaguers. The team gives players with disabilities the opportunity to play ball.

“The sponsors have been amazing,” said Leslie Luciano.

Two pitches in the complex have been leveled to allow players in wheelchairs to play better. The grass has been restored and a new tree has been planted next to the field to provide shade for game spectators.

“Over the past three years, we have redone all four fields. There were hills and things in the fields. Especially with our students with special needs in wheelchairs, it was difficult to move around the field. In addition, when it rained, we sometimes lost the field for three or four days,” said Eric Kirchner.

Kirshner is president of the North Shore Little League. He says it’s a big help because the program doesn’t get anything from the city or county.

“We rent out our strip for $10,000 a year. We have to pay for our own lighting, which is $1,500 whether we’re here or not. If you’re here, it’s over $3,000,” he said. “Things like these we have to do. We must purchase all of our equipment.”

Parents see the difference, and the players are simply delighted with the game of ball.

“It was great, everything they did. Not only for regular teams, but also for players with disabilities who use wheelchairs and move around because we have children with various disabilities,” Luciano said.
