North Bay residents watch San Anselmo Creek as another storm approaches

The first round of wet weather this week brought half a foot of rain in parts of the North Bay.

While there have been no reports of any major damage, some businesses near San Anselmo Creek are poised for another storm.

The rain break gives crews and businesses the opportunity to resolve any issues. There is always concern about how fast the creek in the center of San Anselmo can rise.

Matteo Bussina owns a Taco Janes restaurant downtown. The business was around the time of the 2005 New Year’s Eve flood, when floodwaters from the San Anselmo Creek tore through the city.

Bussina said the 2005 flooding forever changed how businesses in the area deal with rain.

“After that, the city really came together, and that’s when everyone started putting up flood gates,” Bussina said.

On Tuesday, in preparation for the next rain, Bussina planned to fix one of the drainage pumps he installed after the 2005 flood. He also plans to clear the sewers before the next storm hits.

Caroline Latham runs a physical therapy business from her garage in San Anselmo, which flooded during previous storms. Latham said she was taking no chances as another storm was coming.

“I’ll take care of it,” Latham said. “Bring sandbags if my landlord sees fit.”

Sonoma County experienced some minor flooding around Santa Rosa on Tuesday. Fire officials said the first storm did not cause any major landslides near the Glass Fire burn scar.

“Fortunately, we didn’t have that much rain, which caused the fears we’ve been preparing for the last couple of years,” Santa Rosa Fire Department spokesman Paul Lowenthal said.
