No surprise here: New Yorkers have worst commutes in the country, research shows

New Yorkers (and those who come to the city for work) may disagree on a lot, but most of us have one thing in common: our commutes are terrible.

New Yorkers commute to work the longest in the country, according to llc.org, a business-help website.

The study found that the average travel time to work across the city is just under 80 minutes, as it searched for the busiest cities for workers. Jersey City was fourth on the list, averaging 68 minutes, while Yonkers was sixth, averaging just under 66 minutes, the study said.

The site analyzed data from over 170 locations with populations over 150,000. They looked at average working hours, commuting, income growth, crime and health.

Good news? According to the site, no city in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut has made it into the top 30 most stressful cities for workers. Baltimore came closest to making the list of the busiest cities, coming in 18th.

In terms of cities with the most worker stress, Texas dominated the list, with five cities in the top 10 (as well as 10 cities in the top 30). Here is a list of the most stressful cities in the country:

  1. Houston, Texas
  2. Arlington, Texas
  3. Dallas, Texas
  4. Memphis, Tennessee
  5. Las Vegas, Nevada
  6. Corpus Christi, Texas
  7. Fayetteville, North Carolina
  8. Fort Worth, Texas
  9. Moreno Valley, California
  10. Modesto, California

The least stressful city for workers? This honor belongs to Madison, Wisconsin. The other five least stressed cities were for Collins, Colorado; Fremont, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Providence, Rhode Island.
