NFL Hall of Famer Ready for Super Bowl, Trip to See US Troops Overseas

Hutchinson Island, Florida. Willie Roaf, NFL Hall of Famer, is ready for the Super Bowl and a trip to meet US troops.

From his home on Hutchinson Island, Roaf spoke with WPTV host Mike Trim about his upcoming trip and making a home on Treasure Coast.

“I love Hutchinson Island because I love the sanctuary and how they keep it natural. Nothing has grown. This is real retirement. We have always wanted to live by the water,” said Roaf.

He has a lot of trophies from his game days: a bust of Half of Fame from Canton, Ohio, as well as NFC Offensive Lineman of the Year trophies. But this is what a soldier gave him during a visit to Iraq in 2009, and he wore it until his induction into the Hall of Fame in 2012.

“When they put it on my arm there in Iraq, I said I would wear it until the initiation. And I wore it in initiation week and I kept it right here,” Roaf said.

Roaf is looking forward to his new trip to see the American troops. He travels with other NFL legends on the Pro Blitz tour of military bases in Asia and Africa.

The trip ends with him watching the Super Bowl with US military personnel.

“It means going and shaking hands with them, letting them know that we think of them. Remove the monotony of what they do every day. off the beaten track,” Roof said.

Roaf played professional football for 13 years with the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs. These are his last four games with the Chiefs and Roaf is set for this Super Bowl week.

On Sunday, the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. You can watch the game at WFLX FOX 29.

Roaf was at the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City when the Chiefs won their Super Bowl spot. He fondly remembers his time with the Chiefs.

“Just walk through Arrowhead and figure it out, because that’s been my last four years. I played one of the best lines of the time. We were the number one offense in the league. It was a lot of fun,” Roaf said.

As for Roof’s choice in the Super Bowl?

“If the Chiefs can manage football and keep them on the field, I give them a good chance. I give the advantage to the Chiefs because of the experience, but Philadelphia has the best football team,” Roaf said.
