New York Republicans demand ‘national joke’ Rep. George Santos to step down

They had enough.

On Wednesday, senior Republicans in Nassau County demanded that Rep. George Santos resign from Congress, calling him a “fraudster” who lied about his background, work experience and background while opening himself up to criminal investigations and House ethics complaints.

Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph Cairo said Santos had “dishonored the House of Representatives” and launched a campaign of “deceit, lies and fabrications” to win votes in New York’s Third Congressional District.

Santos admitted to The Post on Dec. 26 that he lied about working for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, being Jewish, attending and graduating from Baruch College, and Cairo said Wednesday that Santos told him he was the star of the school’s volleyball team.

“He’s a national joke,” exclaimed Hempstead Town manager Don Clavin. “This joke has to go.”

“He’s told so many lives he doesn’t know what to believe,” Glen Cove Mayor Pam Panzenbeck added.
