New York elections 2022 live results map: Governor, senate and house

The election that Gov. Kathy Hochul initially appeared to have in the bag turned into a surprisingly tight race the past month as Republican challenger Lee Zeldin gained ground with his tough-on-crime campaign.

Zeldin’s recent surge in the polls led the RealClearPolitics website to call the contest a toss-up and forced worried Democrats to deploy some of their biggest guns — including President Biden and Bill and Hillary Clinton — to New York to stump for Hochul.

The Empire State also features a series of competitive congressional contests, including the closely watched match-up between US Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Newburgh) and state Assemblyman Mike Lawler (R-Pearl River).

The race for New York governor is a surprisingly tight race among a series of competitive congressional races.

Maloney is chairman of the Democratic National Campaign Committee — which supports the party’s House candidates — and a loss would mark the first ouster of someone holding that post since 1980, as well as a potential national bellwether.

Other candidates running neck and neck include Republican County Executive Marc Molinaro and Democrat Josh Riley, a former aide to ex-Minnesota Sen. Al Franken.

They’re vying to succeed former Democratic Rep. Anthony Delgado, who resigned to become lieutenant governor after Hochul’s first No. 2, Brian Benjamin, got busted on bribery charges in an alleged campaign finance scheme.

Navy veterans Brandon Williams, a Republican, and Iraq War veteran and former Pentagon adviser Francis Conole are running to succeed Rep. John Katko (R-Auburn), who announced his retirement after becoming one of only 10 GOP House members who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
