New York armed duo stole $1,000 worth of rings from store

The couple threatened a Manhattan jewelry store worker with a gun and pepper spray, then smashed a window and stole about $1,000 worth of rings, police said Tuesday.

The couple entered Ray’s Midtown Jewelry on Lexington Avenue near East 45th Street around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday and approached a 53-year-old man working behind the counter, authorities said.

According to police, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and told the officer that he would shoot him if he did not open the window.

Another scammer pulled out a pepper spray can, police said.

The armed man used his weapon to break open the top of the display case, while another gunman jumped over the counter and grabbed about $1,000 in rings, authorities said.

The worker grappled with the robber on his side of the counter before both suspects fled with the jewelry, police said.

No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday morning, police released photos of both suspects.

During the robbery, the gun-wielding suspect was wearing a black mask, a black hoodie, a black backpack with red straps, and light gray sweatpants.

But later, the shooter, who was of a slim build, changed into a red hoodie, red pants and black trainers and was last seen wearing a black backpack with red straps, police said.

The pepper spray suspect was described as thin, with black hair, facial hair, and tattoos on both forearms.

In the jewelry store, he was wearing a dark blue backpack, black mask, black hoodie, light gray pants, and black sneakers.

He later changed into a navy blue backpack, black T-shirt, black pants and black sneakers, police said.
