New details emerge: Robbery suspect appears in court for the first time

LEE COUNTY, Florida. Officers say suspect Patrick Schroeder was actually at the Bank of America before the armed robbery attempt, trying to cash a check for $14,000.

After being told that the funds must be withheld and cannot be withdrawn, the officers say that is when he got angry and went home.

He then changed, spray-painted a mark on his license plate, grabbed his shirt to hide his face, and returned to the bank with a rifle.

Seeing Schroeder approach the building, the guard locked the doors and refused to let him in. The security guard told detectives that he got into the car and drove away.

The same security guard then called the CCPD and the CCPD was able to locate Schroeder after an unsuccessful traffic stop leading to a car chase between Schroeder and the CCPD.

Once Schroeder came under the jurisdiction of the Lee County Sheriff, he was herded into a hole in his old black BMW and quickly apprehended.

Schroeder was sent to Lee County Jail just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
