New Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in Dallas County, the Covid-19 threat level moved to orange on the color-coded scale

Dallas, TX – The number of new Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations continues the rising trend, both nationally and locally. Last week, the local health officials moved the risk level from Green to Yellow. This week, the risk level was moved to Orange which means extreme caution.

The Dallas County Public Health Committee reminds local residents that the county’s risk level doesn’t match the federal guidance for pandemic measures.

With the threat level increasing to orange, Dallas County health officials advise everyone to wear face masks indoors and avoid congested areas. This, according to the committee, applies to everyone, including those fully vaccinated and boosted.

It’s worth noting that the CDC last week moved the threat level to red, meaning there’s a high level of community spread.

Per the New York Times Covid-19 tracker, a spike in new Covid-19 cases is seen nationwide. According to the 14-day data, 130,073 new cases are being reported on a daily basis on average nationwide, which is a 15% increase.

Health officials constantly advise people to get vaccinated against the deadly virus. Vaccination is still the most effective way to combat the virus.

At the moment, BA.5 is the most common strain across the country. It is a very contagious strain that is hard to protect against with either natural immunity or a vaccine.
